An opt-in is a person's agreement to receive messages from your business on WhatsApp. Meta requires opt-in before you send business-initiated messages, and many countries also have legal rules about consent.
What a good opt-in looks like
- Active: the person ticks a box, taps a button or sends a message.
- Specific: it names WhatsApp and your business.
- Clear: it says what kind of messages they will get, such as order updates or offers.
Where to collect it
Checkout and booking forms, your website chat widget, QR codes, click-to-WhatsApp ads and inside a WhatsApp chat are all common places.
Keeping records
Store the date, source and scope of each opt-in. Whatsuite records this on every contact, along with any opt-out.
Opt-out
Make it easy to stop messages, for example with a "Reply STOP" line or a button. People who cannot opt out easily tend to block or report, which hurts your quality rating.
